Riley liked teasing. A lot. Especially one special warrior woman.
It had been like this right from the beginning. No matter how confused he had been after what had happened at the Conclave, meeting Cassandra Pentaghast in all her tough, pragmatic and somehow delightful glory had been a temptation he could not resist. He liked to challenge her, argue with her, and especially he liked to tease a smile - or even better a small laughter - out of her.
Laughing was important, especially now, in times when they had barely reasons to laugh. The Elder One - or Corypheus how the creature called himself - had turned out to be an unexpected and unwanted intrudor into an already bad situation. The destruction of Haven had been devastating for all of them, but for sure Riley would not allow that this wanna-be villain destroyed the hope and faith that had somehow managed to grow around him. In the past Riley had mostly inspired rampant behavior - For a change it was nice to know that he also seemed to inspire something better.
On the other hand: The people mainly followed him because of the mark on his hand. Damn...
"What's on your mind?"
Flinching, he turned to Cassandra who had been walking next to him all the time. "Just... a small personal crisis..."
A dark eyebrow raised in surprise. "You? A crisis?"
He shrugged. "I just realized once more that people aren't following me because I am such a charming, eloquent and handsome guy, but because of this." He raised his hand.
"And that bothers you?"
He frowned. "Of yourse it does!"
"So you would prefer to be followed because of qualities that have no value for changing the actual situation instead of an ability which allows you to save the world...?"
He stopped midway and turned to her. "Do you blame me?"
"I just try to follow your thoughts...", she answered woodenly and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Ah of course", he snorted. "You know, you could at least have answered that me being handsome and charming is a nice side effect..."
A mischiveous expression appeared in der dark eyes, something he was rarely able to witness. "Who says that I feel this way?"
By making one step towards her he closed the distance between them. "Well, your eyes."
"My eyes?" Now it was her time to snort.
"Yes", he answered and smiled down on her. "Your beautiful honey-brown eyes. No matter how grumpy you try to be, Seeker, they always betray your true feelings."
"You forgot to mention your modesty and knowledge of human nature when you listed your qualities", was all she answered dryly.
He immediately took his chance, ignoring the fact that she was scoffing at him. "So you agree that there ARE qualities beside the fact that I own this mark?"
Rolling her eyes, she made a step backwards and continued walking. "There is no point in talking about such nonsense."
"Nonsense?" Turning to the young man walking behind them, he said: "Cole, your Inqusitior - namely me - is in a deeply worrying kind of personal crisis, and the Seeker says that this is nonsense!"
"You are laughing inside", was all the answer he received. "I like that. It's somehow... calming..."
Cassandra snorted, while Varric, who was walking next to the young sprit boy - or whatever Cole was - laughed. "Inquisitor, let me tell you as someone who has been interrogated by Seeker Pentaghast: She is not exactly the sensitive type of woman."
"Really?" Looking back at Cassandra, Riley stated: "Actually I think she is a... I don't know... like an extremely crusty baguette!"
"WHAT?" Cassandra whirled around and suddenly Riley was facing an extremly furious Seeker. "You compare me with a baguette??"
While Varric was barely able to suppress his laughther anymore, Riley simply shrugged and looked down at her, inwardly congratulating himself that he had finally provoked a reaction. "Yes, a baguette: A crusty hull, but a soft and fluffy and delicate core..."
"THIS I have to put somewhere into my next book", Varric laughed. "I have never heard anything more awkward... and true."
"You..." Raising a finger, Cassandra even came closer, so close that Riley was able to smell her fragrance, clean woman and warrior at the same time. "You are..."
When she did not end the sentence, he innocently asked: "Yes?"
Her eyes narrowed while her raised finger lowered again. "You are right, Inquisitor: You HAVE qualities. The biggest one is - next to your mark - the ability to never lose hope. A quality you are desperatly going to need if you will EVER GONNA CALL ME a baguette AGAIN !"
And with these words, she turned and continued walking, leaving the three of them behind.
Rileys eyes followed her every movement: Her rigid spine, the way her hips were moving.
Look back at me, he thought. Look back...
And she did. Her eyes only met for a brief moment, but he knew what he needed to know.
Maker, this would be fun...

A Simple Task, part 5
***Contains naughty language, mild violence, and sexual themes***
Fenris could not remember the last time he felt so terrible. He'd walked out on her again, and this time she'd found comfort somewhere else. The image of her, settled back in her chair, the inner slopes of her breasts tenderly exposed as Anders put his hands on her flashed through his mind. He wanted to kill the mage, or crawl into a hole and die. Or both. No matter how he tried, he couldn't seem to calm himself. He'd thought after the other night that Hawke had forgiven him, even started to believe things could

Fenris woke earlier than normal and feeling better than he had in a long time. He couldn't put his finger on why, but he almost felt like smiling. Though he wanted to hurry over to Hawke's, Fenris took some time to clean up, carefully washing and combing his unruly hair, cleaning his leathers; he even took time to burnish his chest plate. It was after midmorning when he set out, monstrous sword strapped to his back, black armor gleaming in the bright sun. Bodahn answered the door with a perfunctory, "Welcome serrah. My lad

Well, after finishing Dragon Age Inqusition for the first time I decided to write a small One Shot about my male Inquisitor Riley and Cassandra - I like her Actually I am going to romance her now in my second run - my first LI was Cullen - so I haven't played her whole romance arc yet. Anyway: This is how I see Riley and her together
